Welcome back VITIANS!!!

Your very own, the most up-to-dated organization, VITrendz-Chennai is back with yet another blog and some great news….Wuhu….thanks to you all, our first blog became a hit and hence with a popular vote we have decided to bring latest content to your doorway EVERY WEEK!!

Even though no one knows when the college reopening will happen, because no official date has been announced by VIT officials but we have been hearing a lot of gossips everywhere which have given many people a little hope to get away from their current lazy routines and take a zest of the college life. People who have been to the campus know exactly what we are talking about.

The curiosity of knowing everything which will soon become a part of our daily life led us to having this week’s blog where we answer all the important questions collected from different sources because after all, everyone loves answers. All the information has been confirmed and then added here because we believe in quality over quantity.

Here we go….

Is it easy to migrate to ECM/Any dept.?

NO, it is not easy to migrate to ECM/any dept. or any other course until you are a topper of your batch in your respective field. If you fulfill the criteria then your HoD of the current course approves your application and sends your migration letter to the HoD of the course you have opted for. You can contact your proctor or HoD.

What are the facilities provided in the hostel room?

All the rooms have a standard size where you will be provided with a bunker bed at the top and a study table below it, a small cupboard with a few sections for keeping your luggage on either side of the bed. All hostellers have a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 roommates excluding you. Each room mate will be given their own socket points, and everyone will have access to a minimum of 130 mbps Wifi .The choice of the room, whether you want AC or NON-AC, depends on the availability and the money you want to spend.

In offline class will the bus wait till 6pm if I have class till 6pm?

Unfortunately, bus waits for no one. It will leave at 5:30 p.m. but you can opt for morning slot for which the classes get over by 5p.m.

Who is a proctor and what does he do?

Consider your proctor as your dummy parent in terms of your academic years in VIT. The proctor is responsible for guiding you throughout your lows and highs. Low attendance, want to go out with friends on weekend, missing your parents, having trouble coping up with studies, hostel adjustment issues, or anything which acts like a hindrance, you can contact your proctor. Changing the proctor is NOT POSSIBLE until specified by the administrative department.

When can i go out from the campus and what is the procedure which needs to be followed?

On working days, anyone can go out of the campus in between from
8am to 6pm. On institutional holidays, going out from the campus follows a different procedure which differs for both boys and girls.

Boys need to fill a form and get it signed by their respective proctor, later, parents/guardian have to talk to the guard for allowing you to go out of the campus.

Girls follow the same procedure for going out but the permission from their local guardian is also required.

The timings on institutional holidays remain the same, from
8 a.m. to 6 p.m. however, if you are late to come back to the campus, then you better be ready with a good excuse😅. The name of the late incomers is sent to the respective warden of their hostel and then the parents are also informed about the indiscipline act. It is important to know that VIT is very strict with rules and hence you may have to pay a heavy fine for getting off from any trouble.

What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?

GPA (Grade Point Average), is calculated at the end of every semester whereas CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is calculated every semester. To sum it up in a layman language, GPA denotes your performance in a particular semester whereas, CGPA denotes your performance at the end of your course.

I have changed my contact number and informed my proctor but no changes have been done. What to do?

In times when proctor fails to update your details, you can e-mail your details to chennai.sdc@vit.ac.in and get your work done.

Are restaurants inside the campus costly?

There are many restaurants and food joints within the campus which offer food at the same price available everywhere.

Can i have any electronics appliances in my hostel room?

Unfortunately, no student is allowed to keep any sort of like Electric kettle, hair straightener, printer, computer, speakers, etc. until you know how to hide things very well😁😝.

Anyways appliances like laptop, phone, air pods/headphones, or any other easy to port academic- related devices are given allowance. If any appliance, which is not allowed within the hostel guidelines, is found in your room then along with the fine you will also have to say goodbye to it forever!!!!

Can we sneak out of the hostel?

VIT definitely knew that students who love breaking rules will try to jump the hostel walls. But don’t you worry, until and unless you are an invisible man/woman, you cannot sneak out from the hostel. Every day after 7p.m. for girls and after 9p.m. for boys, warden who is In Charge of your hostel, along with a few Great Khali type guards, ask you to give your fingerprints on a biometric device which basically acts like your hostel attendance. The only difference is that if you don’t get a 100% here, then you are a dead person.

For boys, like the lazy beanbags they are, warden and the guards come to their room for fingerprints and for girls, they have to go to a common lobby where they sign and give their fingerprints.

The security varies hostel wise, for girl’s hostel, security is a little tighter for creating a “safer environment”.

Why do girls have so many restrictions?

Calling safety measures a restriction would be a little timid approach to how we view all the rules. VIT is strict because as a college it has taken the responsibility of almost 10,000 students. These rules are not specific only for one gender, but for all. The whole environment of the campus life may be different for a few students but there are many ways to make it comfortable for you all. In specific, girls are provided with more security in compared to boys and for the ones who are hostellers, they have a great deal of fun within the hostel boundaries itself as they have their own grocery store for those midnight cravings, photocopy store for getting notes photostat for their friends during the open textbook CAT-2 and also who doesn’t like an open lawn for a fresh breeze.

What if I fail to complete my course registration on time?

Course registration is important and hence you may get a little thrashing by your respective HoD for being late but, DON’T WORRY. Everyone gets an option for ADD/DROP courses just 3–4 days after the course registration is over. So, you can opt for your respective courses again.

However, if you have forgotten or missed the date for registration then, you will have to contact the SDC who will then give you an already made timetable which will not be of your choice.

That’s it for today everyone, thank you so much for reading our blog, we hope you have got the answers you were searching for.
