In and Around Campus(VIT Chennai)

You get off at Tambaram railway station catch a cab and say, “Anna VIT Chennai”.

Here we are with another blog of the week. As we know that most of the freshers have not yet visited our campus this time we brought the campus to your home.

You get off at Tambaram railway station catch a cab and say, “Anna VIT Chennai”. He catches the Vandalur ECR highway, you head down on that for 15 mins and suddenly on the left you see this huge beige trapezoid which reads VIT in Tamil and as you turn into the broad driveway you see a brick red ceiling stopping down with a security guard letting cars in one by one. Once they let you in, there would be MGR standing on a pedestal pointing you towards the gymkhana(Gymkhana to the right and hostel to the left) ,the most enticing and memorable staple of VIT Chennai, only short of the hostels (quite literally) of VIT Chennai.

What distinguishes VITians from muggles is the identity card and its importance. It is popularly said that

‘What a wand is to a wizard is what the identity card is to the people of VIT’ .

Spend a day here without your identity card and know what it feels like to be attacked by Dementors.

Boys Hostel

Great food great memories and a whole lotta fun is what you can expect from the VIT CHENNAI hostels. Late night chill sessions with the bros, playing valo, pranking each other , waiting for long queues near washrooms and the list goes on .The VIT hostels are not just four walls and a building where we take shelter, it’s an epitome of fun memories and the fuel for nostalgia once you leave the place, the whole sprinting to one of the 4 messes before food runs out or sprinting back to the hostels from the gate before in time are the worst things that could happen when you are in hostel but the best memories once we leave that place .On weekends, they have to be back in their hostel rooms by 6p.m., according to new rules introduced by VIT University, Weekdays 9 am to 6 pm is the outing time but can stay inside collage till 9pm ,hostel in-time is 9pm.

But this is what you have to tell your mates, if the time is over 6:30 cuz even if its a minute past 7, the wardens are going to boil you alive and make you feel hell on earth, if you do get to the hostel premises before 7 but don’t wanna get inside just yet, you can enjoy the awesome fresh air outside on the lawn with the A1 security guards giving you a dirty look .Seeking leave for going to Puducherry or a trip with friends will only raise eyebrows and deter your chances of getting approval. You need to mark attendance each time you leave the hostel and in case you come late, you have to sign an apology note, a new system that has been introduced now, explain the boys. The girls are penalized immediately.

Academic Block -1

The depot of knowledge in the VITC campus. Some serious faces, some chilled ones beaming with happiness, some still soaked in the sleep and some shrugging away their tiredness. As you pass through a corridor, you can actually experience the diversity of curriculum in VIT. The labs, where some nature enthusiasts peep through the windows while others into the readings of others. If you think local trains are overly crowded, then you have never been to the AB1 lift.The fight for life, the struggle, and the brain we put in to occupy space are equivalent to the struggle for living in the outer world.

Academic Block-2

VITians have always witnessed this block to be under construction prior to pandemic. Let’s see what’s been cooked in the plate once the college reopens. There is a garage lying on the basement of AB2. Most of the meetings of special teams in VIT is done here. People who are fortunate enough get their classes here, running for reviews ,labs from one block to other.

Amphitheater

The theatre of art , a platform accessible to every VITian to showcase their inner talent .This stage is a home for all mind blowing performances which are bound to make you awestruck.

Gazebo (one good thing 😉 )

It’s place where you can find burgers, wraps, sandwiches, nuggets, noodles, pasta, etc. alongside mouth watering brownies, juices, etc. The perfect combination of cold coffee and chicken noodles is to die for .Gazebo runs another shop in the academic block and also the night mess in B Block (9 pm to 12 midnight).

If you didn’t have cake thrown at you at Gazebo, did you really celebrate your birthday.

It’s also pretty famous as couple’s favorite spot ;)

Library

From serious discussions, to club meetings, to all the secret fun and to all the books that we went through rigorously. As long as you grab the correct textbooks for each subject , you are set for CAT-2. You can spot a huge queue in front of Xerox shop during CAT-2’s.

VMART

Want a fancy departmental store which has everything you could dream of from A-Z in VIT Chennai ?even if you say yes ,you will not be able to get it and what you’ll get instead is our Vmart, our campus departmental store. It may not have your favorite flavor of ice cream or anything other than lays and coke but when you need that journal note, a4 paper, a box of pens, erasers staplers sketches whatever you want stationary wise they will be your helping hand.

Lassi Shop, Domino’s, Gymkhana

Desserts, sandwitches, Indian , Chinese cuisine, pizza , drinks whatever you ask for ..Bored of the mess food and want to free yourself from the rut? Head on over to these areas. You can gorge yourself on some of the tastiest food available in a 2 mile radius. The dominos in our campus is the one stop shop for all bday parties treats everything.Food park has now been shut down and replaced by Gymkhaana, a bigger food court with option of both AC and non AC seating. They have a lot of variety from every cuisine.Lassi house have all kinds of shakes, lassi, soda, fruit juice, sugarcane, milkshakes and some South Indian items every now and then.
