How excited are you to return back to your second home???

We hope you must also be quite excited to visit the places around the campus and bring home some worthwhile experiences that you cherish in Chennai!!!! In this blog, you will find the places that you and your peers can travel to within the city limits. Chennai is one such city that is known for its culture and the craze for Kollywood movies. In the same way, it is one such city which covers all the bases such as public transport, tourist spots, star hotels, beaches, north-Indian food, confectioneries, etc. Vitrendz with this blog surrounds all the places that one can never miss, being a VITian!!!

  1. Vandalur Zoo

Vandalur being the heart of VITians stands first on our list. This is probably the nearest tourist spot that one can find. It is located 9km from our campus and takes a mere 12 min drive. Although the zoo here is in no way unique, it is definitely a place to visit if you are an animal lover. Spread over an area of 1500 acres, this park shelters more than 200 different species. This zoo is also the biggest animal conservation park present in TN. So if you wish to spend your weekends with a nearby tourist spot, Vandalur zoo is always a key.

2) Kovalam — ECR beach

Next on the list stands the evergreen Kovalam beach which is located near ECR road. This is the nearest beach that one can find from the campus and it stays 15km apart with a travel time of 25 min. This beach has turned out to be the place for the students to relax and indulge in the fresh air they get. Sunrise and sunsets are never to be missed. So if you are a beach lover, you should definitely add this spot to your bucket.

3) The Marina Mall

Talking about malls and shopping centers, The Marina mall is currently the nearest spot for the hostellers to rejoice in their pass time. Although it’s not as massive as the phoenix market city, it definitely can support its purpose and can serve useful for regular shoppers. This mall is 15km away and takes a 30min drive from VIT’s main gate. With the help of inox integrated with the mall, this can also be your movie destination.

4) Mylapore

If you are a cultural person or if you hunt for Tamil culture elsewhere, you can definitely visit this place to know more about ancient Madras and its tradition. There are more than 30 ancient temples built here by the Pallavas ranging from the 7th century CE. This place is oriented much towards the artforms, festivity, scriptures, traditional system of living, etc. You must definitely visit once during your life at VIT. The distance from the campus is around 40km and takes 1.5 hrs to reach.

5) Mahabalipuram

This landform here lies close to the beach and bears legendary temples and monuments built by the Pallava dynasty. This place consists of three temples built in a single complex. The sculptures and cravings are the highlights for one to picturise. This is also one on the list of world heritage sites. Students renting out rooms during the weekends here is quite common. The road to reach Mahabalipuram is indeed a heaven walk with 34km of pure bliss costing 45min.
