Wondering how your Campus life would be?
And are you quite curious to know where exactly the campus lies from the major city entry points?
Then VITians, this blog is made just for you. Read on to know further details about the transport facilities, campus location, public connectivity, and the nearest spots to hang out.
Where exactly is the campus?
The 192-acre massive campus is rightly erected in quite a deserted place when compared to the city center, as such is the requirement for a vast area spreading quality infrastructure. This setup is put forth in a place called Kelambakkam near Vandalur and is definitely a worthwhile distance from the major city entry points. Although the campus is placed on the outskirts of the Greater Chennai city, it breathes well with all the facilities that one requires to survive his/her daily needs. There are pretty good numbers of public transport available with a decent level of connectivity.
Ways to reach the campus
Talking about the transportation facilities available in Chennai, there are plenty of ways for a student to reach campus in a budget-friendly style. Listed below are some of the common ways students opt to reach the campus from major Airports, Bus stations, and Railway stations.
- OLA/UBER
Quite common in all cities, we definitely can rely on them for a safe and comfortable ride directly to the college without any stops. Although the prices keep sky-rocketing after the twilight, they can stand helpful for a tired less ride. The approx. cost for a mini from the Chennai Central Railway station to the campus bears from Rs. 800 to 1000. If you opt to hire Rickshaws the drivers may charge close to Rs. 600 to 700 on a normal day. In this way, your trip time will be around 1–1.5 hours.
If you look to hire the taxi service from the Airport offered here in local (commonly called fast track taxis) you may have to pay Rs. 450 to 550 for an average four-seater car and it takes around 30mins trip time.
2) Bike Taxis
Bike taxis are also quite a common mode of connecting people to different places in Chennai. It was initially in the development stage but now stands quite useful for lakhs of people as it heeds to be pocket-friendly and reliable. Rapido was the first brand to introduce this concept and later was when OLA and UBER started to implement this in their diaries. The average cost to travel from the Railway station to the campus by bike taxi is around Rs.350–450, while the cost from the airport is Rs. 200–280.
3) Public Transport
Chennai is very well known for its Government-funded transport system as they are economical and has a good frequency of trains and buses. One can take a local train from the main Central Railway station to Tambaram which would be a mere cost of Rs.15–20. Later he/she can board a bus (55C, 55K, 115, 117, etc) from Tambaram and reach the campus directly in Kelambakkam.
The metro lines are also operational but are quite far. We hope the new line under construction to felicitate the travel and reduce time in massive numbers.
